About the song (Bandcamp): The boys, very young, hung around playing games while I practiced songs and vocals. On several occasions, Nico, at the time 9 yrs old, kept singing… ’Merry, Merry Sparrow, under leaves so green…’ over and over , while playing on his own on the floor. After a while it occurred to me that I should ask if he would like to sing it and… he declined. I waited a moment and then said: Nico, it’s possible that some 30 or 40 years from now you’ll come across this recording and while listening to it you’ll say, “Wow! I remember this moment with dad”. He looked at me and said, “Ok dad, I’ll do it!” He sang it like he wished, in one take. Definitely one of my all time favorite memories.
The 5000-year-old Sumerian “Silver Lyre of Ur”, along with several other musical instruments, was unearthed in southern Iraq in the 1920’s by the British archaeologist, Sir Leonard Woolley. Very little of it was left after five millennia, but careful research revealed that the soundbox was entirely made of silver, not wood overlaid with a sheet of silver. The soundbox of this reproduction (we are listening to) of the Silver Lyre is made of metal, which gives the instrument a timbre that is probably comparable to the original artifact. For anyone wanting more information, I refer you to the work of the remarkable archaeomusicologist, Richard Dumbrill. (see link)

From YouTube, this short cliip shot by an unknown person who walks alongside the enigmantic poet as he strolls around Ginsberg's farm. Charles & his wife Pamela moved to live on the farm w/Ginsberg at some point. About the farm (from the book _East Hill Farm: Seasons with Allen Ginsberg_ by farm manager Gordon Ball: During the late 1960s, when peace, drugs, and free love were direct challenges to conventional society, Allen Ginsberg, treasurer of Committee on Poetry, Inc., funded what he hoped was “a haven for comrades in distress” in rural upstate New York. First described as an uninspiring, dilapidated four-bedroom house with acres of untended land, including the graves of its first residents, East Hill Farm became home to those who sought pastoral enlightenment in the presence of Ginsberg’s brilliance and generosity. A self-declared member of a “ragtag group of urban castoffs” including Gregory Corso, Peter Orlovsky, Herbert Huncke, and the mythic Barbara Rubin, farm manager Ball tends to a non-stop flurry of guests, chores, and emotional outbursts

After recording two non-charting singles, the band added drummer Terry Draper to the line-up; this trio constituted Klaatu throughout the rest of the band's recording career, from 1973 to 1982 - wiki"

The first vocal album by beloved Ethiopian nun, composer, and pianist Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru - profound and deeply moving home cassette recordings made amidst political upheaval and turmoil...These songs, recorded between 1977-1985, are different from anything previously released by the artist. Rich with the sound of birds outside the window, the creak of the piano bench, the thump of Emahoy’s finger on the record button, they create a sense of place, of being near the artist while she records. Emahoy’s lyrics, sung in Amharic, are poetic and heavy with the weight of exile. Emahoy dreamt of releasing this music to a larger audience before her passing in March of 2023. We are proud to release this music, in collaboration with her family, now, in what would have been her 100th year. - Bandcamp/liner notes. See link for Pitchfork review
